This committee makes all provisions for the annual APWA KC Metro Chapter BBQ Challenge and Membership Drive, to be held every June. The committee shall also coordinates the annual APWA KC Metro Steak Fry. The committee meets as needed, generally at Freddy-T's in Olathe.
December 16, 2009 Chapter members voted to amend the KC Metro Chapter By Laws. The By Laws Committee will review the Chapter's By Laws again in 2012 and discuss updating the document on the three year review cycle.
This committee was formed by merging the Arrangements, Attendance, and Program Committees. The committee's purpose is to make provisions for all regular monthly chapter meetings and outings, and assist with the registration / check-in process, as needed, at other functions arranged by special chapter committees (i.e., National Public Works Week luncheon, Membership BBQ Contest / Dinner, Steak Fry Dinner, Snow Plow Rodeo luncheon, Chapter Holiday Party, other Technical Committee events, and the National Congress Chapter Dinner when it is held in Kansas City). The Committee notifies members and take reservations for all chapter activities and conducts appropriate activities to encourage attendance atAPWA functions. The Committee plans, schedules, and coordinates Chapter meeting programs that are of general interest to the membership.
The Communications and Publicity Committee prepares and publishes monthly newsletters containing current information about chapter activities and issues relevant to the membership of the Chapter. The Committee is responsible for publicizing and promoting Chapter activities locally, regionally and nationally. The Committee promotes the APWA National Chapter template website within the Kansas City Metropolitan Chapter, and acts as liaison to the APWA National template website program and its developers. The Committee also protects and maintains the chapter e-mail list, and distributes information to the Chapter from any chapter committees, as well as from non-APWA organizations in accordance with current policies.
The Executive Committee is the managing body of the KC Metro Chapter. It consists of the Chapter President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Past President, four Directors serving staggered two year terms, one Director-at-Large and the Chapter Delegate and Alternate Delegate. The Executive Committee meets monthly, typically on the third Wednesday, to transact Chapter business. The members of KC Metro Chapter are welcome to attend the Executive Committee meetings.
The 30th Annual Golf Tournament was held on July 19, 2011 at Shoal Creek Golf Cournse; the Tournament's 23 sponsors certainly made this a successful event . Thanks for your support! Next year we can almost guarantee lower temperatures.The 2012 Golf Committee will likely begin planning in early February 2012; with limited information provided in the March PUB NEWS.
The Historical Committee shall maintain the historical records of the chapter in a usable order and shall provide this information to the chapter membership as required. The committee shall maintain a membership in the national APWA Historical Society and shall work to promote membership by chapter members in the society.
The Joint Engineers Council Liaison represents the KC Metro Chapter on the Joint Engineers Council (JEC). JEC is an umbrella organization of Kansas City area professional and technical organizations having significant membership from the engineering community. The purpose of JEC is to provide a coordinating body for organizations to plan events, share ideas regarding organization management and activities and to publish the annual JEC KC Engineers Roster.
As a part of the chapter's strategic plan, the chapter would like to provide outreach to K-12 education.Use this committee to store documents and resources useful for members to present to schools
The Nominating Committee will meet in September 2012 to finalize their nominations for the 2013 KC Metro Chapter Board of Directors. KC Metro Chapter members will vote to fill the vacant positions for 2013 at the December Holiday Party.
This committee has been changed to a liaison position to provide communication with the MARC solid waste committee but eliminate overlap and duplication of effort.
